SIGGRAPH Perth runs events every month. Usually around 7:00pm on the first Monday of each month in a lecture theatre kindly provided by eCentral TAFE (aka. simply Central TAFE).
These events generally alternate between screenings (of some of the best international and local graphics and animation) and meetings (with speakers giving a lecture-style presentation). Every now and then there is a special event like an interaction session (in which people can bring their work and show off to their peers).
Turning up at a new building for an event you don’t know that much about can sometimes be fairly daunting. Especially when the building is very quiet because it’s outside of normal operating hours. I decided to take some pictures at a recent SIGGRAPH Perth event to give people a sort of visual guide to what goes on (and how to get there).
This is the eCentral building in East Perth. As a general guide, here’s a link to eCentral TAFE on Google Maps. (The entrance you’re after isn’t exactly at the location the arrow on the map points to.)
More photos and comments after the jump.
The entrance you want is near(ish) this sign:
Just look for the big bits of wood:
Once inside, take a right:
Go up the stairs:
Down the hall:
Take a left, after the hall becomes a walkway between buildings, and there you are:
If you’re early, you will probably find us setting up:
Our treasurer (Jason in this case) waits at the door to collect entry fees (currently $10 or $5 for full-time students) and to encourage people to sign up (members get into events free and annual membership is only $20 or $10 for full-time students).
Then the meeting is off. We normally have around 1-3 dozen people, but clearly more for popular events like screenings of the latest and greatest from the annual SIGGRAPH conference.
So that’s it! Hope to see you at a SIGGRAPH Perth event in future.
